Berlin Wax Scandal

Berlin based paper Tagesspiegel reports that a candlelight planned vigil has been banned from using candles. The vigil is planned for Saturday when rallies for democracy in Iran will be held all around the world. Authorities say that spilled wax makes roads and squares slippery, and that cleaning causes significant cost. The organizer of the vigil stays defiant, plans to obtain a permit in court.

5 Tips for IMing with contacts on the ground #neda #gr88

If you're communicating with contacts on the ground in Iran I have a few tips for you. The tips apply especially for the contacts.

* Use a messenger like Pidgin, http://pidgin.im, with OTR encryption. Mac Users can use Adium, http://adium.im
* protect your connection with TOR, https://www.torproject.org/torbrowser/index.html.fa
* Set up new messaging accounts that bear no resemblance to your established online and Real Life Identities
* Don't allow your contacts to disclose any valuable information over unprotected channels. The only exception if their cover is blown and they know for sure, they can't escape the regime's thugs anymore (hopefully never).
* Make sure your contacts disable any logging of your conversations.
